Winter break opening hours 2023
The University will be closed from Friday 22 December and will reopen on Tuesday 2 January.
Our service and building opening hours are different during the festive period – please check the relevant webpages for full opening hours and updates.
Campus Security
Our Security team are available all year round if you need support on campus. Please call: 0161 247 2222 or get in touch via the SafeZone App.
Student Hubs
Between 18-22 December, you can contact the Student Hubs by telephone on 0161 247 1000 between 10am-4pm, submit an online enquiry and find answers to hundreds of FAQs on our Digital Hub.
The Student Hubs will be closed from Friday 22 December and will reopen on Tuesday 2 January. During this time, you can access information via the Digital Hub. Any enquiries submitted will be picked up from 2 January onwards.
Mental health and wellbeing support
Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing services will close at 4:30pm on Friday 22 December and reopen at 8:45am on Tuesday 2 January. If you need support during this time, please use our self-help wellbeing pages and our wellbeing podcasts.
Our new, 24/7 student support line is now available. It will be open throughout the winter break offering mental health and wellbeing support. You can call for free on 0808 238 9888 (calls from overseas will be charged).
Crisis and out-of-hours support
Please call 999 if you are in serious distress, or in danger of harming yourself or others. Alternatively:
- Go to the Accident and Emergency Department at your local hospital. The nearest to Manchester Met is the Manchester Royal Infirmary 0161 276 4147
- Call Samaritans 116 123 (free to call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year)
- Text SHOUT to 85258. SHOUT provides text-based crisis support
- Call the Greater Manchester NHS Mental Health Helpline, open 24/7, on 0800 953 0285
- Contact your GP (Doctor) to request an emergency appointment or call NHS 111
- Call SANEline 0300 304 7000 (4:30pm - 10:30pm, 365 days a year)
Library
The Library building will remain open 24 hours a day throughout the winter break, including on Christmas day.
Library Study (Oxford Rd), The Help Desk, Chat, and emails will be closed from 7pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Building and catering
Buildings will be following vacation opening times from Saturday 16 December – Friday 22 December.
All campus buildings will then be closed from Friday 22 December – Tuesday 2 January.
Some academic buildings will run vacation opening hours from Tuesday 2 January to Monday 22 January (Monday – Friday, 8am-6pm). They include:

- Benzie
Catering outlets
From Monday 18 December to Friday 22 December only the following outlets will be open 9am-3pm:
- Costa
- Benzie
- Brooks Café
These outlets will re-open on Tuesday 2 January, 9am-3pm and then revert to normal opening hours from Monday 8 January.
The remaining outlets will open will and operate with their standard opening hours from the following dates:
- Grove – Monday 8 January
- Brooks Kitchen – Monday 15 January
- All Saints Café – Monday 15 January
- JD Kiosk – Monday 15 January
- Hub Food Court – Monday 22 January
- Soda – Monday 22 January
- Brew and Cake – Monday 22 January
Accommodation
Accommodation remains open to residents over the Christmas break. The Student Living offices will be staffed 24/7 throughout the holiday period.

Prayer Rooms/Chaplaincy
The prayer rooms will close on Friday 22 December and reopen on Tuesday 2 January (in line with building opening times).

Study support
The Academic and Study Skills service, including the Writing Project, will close at 5:00pm on Friday 22 December and will reopen at 9:00am on Tuesday 2 January. If you would like help during this period, then you are able to access a range of screencasts, videos, and resources for all our courses and workshops on Moodle.
Eligible students can still access Studiosity, Study Skills Moodle area, and A Critical Thought podcast.
Inclusion and Disability Service
The Inclusion and Disability Service will close at 4:30pm on Friday 22 December and will reopen at 9:00am on Tuesday 2 January.

Report and Support
Our advisors are unable to respond to reports while the University is closed from Friday 22 December to Tuesday 2 January.

- True Vision: Offers guidance on reporting hate crime and hate incidents. There is an online form for reporting hate crime and hate incidents to the police or you can report and remain anonymous.
MMU Sport
MMU Sport Office closes at 4:00pm on Friday 22 December and re-opens at 10:00am on Tuesday 2 January.
Platt Lane Sports Complex will be closed from 10:00pm on Friday 22 December and re-open at 8:00am on Tuesday 2 January.
Sugden Sports Centre is closed from Sunday 24 December – Tuesday 26 December and from Sunday 31 December – Monday 1 January. Between Wednesday 27 December – Saturday 30 December the Centre will be open between 9:00am – 4:00pm.
