How to enter
Details of the 2025 North West Mother Tongue Other Tongue competition will be posted here shortly. To sign up to receive information, closer to the time, please sign up on the Manchester Poetry Library’s mailing list.
Other regions across the UK, including East of England, North East England, Scotland and Wales have their own versions of Mother Tongue Other Tongue, with different deadlines. See below for details of competitions and offers close to you.
If Mother Tongue Other Tongue is not co-ordinated in your local region, you can enter your students’ work to the North West England competition. See criteria on the North West England page.

The competition is run in the East by Routes into Languages East.

North East England
In the North East of England Mother Tongue Other Tongue runs for schools and community groups across the North East, for young people aged 7-18.
It is run as part of Express Yourself the North East Festival of Languages.
North East entries are invited between 8 January and 22 March 2024.
