Key dates

Friday 12 July

The Gallery and Reading Room in the Special Collections Museum will close on 12 July 2024.

We’ll provide an update on when the collections will be available again soon.

Friday 19 July

We will start to move books from mid July, so you may notice some disruption and some space may not be available.

The Library will also close on a wing-by-wing basis starting with the Oxford Road study area on 19 July 2024. The All Saints building will also close on this date.

Monday 22 July

Books in the Ground North Wing and Ground West Wing of the Library will be relocated to our off-site store from 22 July.

The Ground North Wing and Ground West Wing currently hold our collection of books on Criminology, Economics, Education, Law, Social Work & Social Care, Tourism, Computing, Journalism, LIS, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology and Sociology.

Please ensure that you reserve any books you need from this area in advance to avoid any delays in assessing the collections whilst they are being moved.

To reserve books, please follow the steps on our Borrowing, Renewals and Reservations page.

During this transition period for our print collections, you will continue to have uninterrupted access to hundreds of essential digital resources. By using Library Search or linking from your reading lists in Moodle, you can access many core resources 24/7, benefitting from our extensive collection of eBooks, eJournals, and databases to support your learning and research.

Additionally, we offer other key services to ensure you have access to any content you need, if not currently available through our digital library collection. Please use our Request-it service for book or chapter requests.

Library services

All Library services will be available over the summer.

You’ll be able to access our extensive digital resources in the usual way, including e-books, academic journals and databases.

There will be lots of study spaces available to you across campus too, including a new space in the Geoffrey Manton building.

Study spaces will also be available in specific Library areas and the fifth floor of the Library will remain open throughout.

Books and other printed materials will be moving in phases to our off-site store.  As they do, they will become available to order through our click and collect service.
