Introduction

The APA (American Psychological Association) referencing style is used by professionals in psychology. The latest edition of the APA guide is the 7th.

In the APA style of referencing, you acknowledge the source within the text by citing the author’s last name and date of publication in parentheses, e.g. (Jackson, 2021). You also provide full details of each item in an alphabetical reference list at the end of your assignment. You may also include a bibliography, although it is not a necessity.

Cite Them Right APA

Cite Them Right APA

Bloomsbury’s Cite Them Right website provides advice on how to cite and reference a broad range of source types according to the 7th edition of the APA style. Students are encouraged to use Cite Them Right when following the APA style.

The site also offers a tutorial on referencing and plagiarism and it’s possible to select ‘APA’ as the style within this tutorial.

When visiting Bloomsbury’s Cite Them Right website, please ensure that you select APA 7th under ‘Choose Referencing Style’.

Why reference

Why reference?

One of the purposes of referencing is to be able to enable others to find the information that you have used in your assignment.

Also not referencing the work of yours is called plagiarism. Plagiarism is a form of misconduct.

See the Academic Integrity page for more information.

There is lots on how to avoid plagiarism  in the Skills Online tutorial on Moodle and the Academic Study Skills videos playlist on YouTube.
