New Features in EndNote 21

  • Improved organisation

You can now add coloured coded tags to references in EndNote Desktop.  These are customisable labels to help organise your references.

Seven different colours are available.  Once assigned to a record, tags are visible in the central panel.

Multiple tags can be added to records.

    To create a tag

    • Go to the Tags menu and select Create Tag or click on the plus symbol next to My Tags in the left-hand pane.
    • Create a name for your tag and select a colour, then choose Create tag.
    • The tags automatically appear under My Tags in the left-hand pane.

To assign tags to a reference

You can do this in several ways. Either:

    • Select the reference/s you wish to tag.  You can use the Ctrl key to select more than one.  Then drag the records to the appropriate tag in the left-hand pane.
    • Select a record, right click, and choose Manage Tags.  Select the relevant tag/s and click OK.
    • Select a record and in the right-hand pane, choose Edit and then Manage tags. Select the relevant tag/s and click OK.

    Removing tags

There are several ways to remove a tag. Either:

    • Select a reference and right click, then choose manage Tags.  To remove one tag click the cross next to the tag and then click OK and this will remove the tag from this record.  If you want to remove multiple tags choose Clear tags and click OK.  This will remove all tags from a specific record.
    • Select a record and in the right-hand pane and your tags will be displayed, click the cross next to relevant tags to remove them.
  • Single reference restoration

In case you have made some unintended changes to a record, it is now possible to view and restore the previous version of a record.  Please note you will need to sync your library with EndNote Web to use this feature.

    • Click to select a relevant record.  In the right-hand pane choose Edit, then Compare versions.
    • A new screen will appear displaying the new version of the record on the left and previous version on the right.  Changes will be highlighted.
    • If you want to revert to the previous version choose Use this version.
  • New EndNote Web interface

Previously known as EndNote online, the new EndNote Web seamlessly syncs with your EndNote library and provides a location to backup your reference library.  Endnote Web has a new and improved interface, designed to work closely with the Desktop version.

  • New integration with Word Online and Google Docs

EndNote 21 is now available in Google Docs and Word Online.
