Section 001

At Manchester Metropolitan University we are shaping a future vision for our library and cultural services, with proposals to develop a landmark new building to replace the existing library on All Saints Square.

This project is core to our strategy of delivering excellent education for our students and research which makes a positive impact on the world we live in and benefits our wider communities.

Our Board of Governors has approved an outline business case developed with colleagues in our Library and Cultural Services and several other teams. Now we are keen to hear the views of all colleagues, students and our neighbours.

Our proposals

The proposed library design will deliver an iconic building at the heart of our campus, creating a new gateway to the University. Our vision is to create a dynamic and active learning environment which redefines the role of the library for a modern 21st century university and puts the experience of students and colleagues at its heart.

We aim to apply for planning permission this autumn before a full business case is submitted to our Board of Governors in spring 2024. We will also run a tender process with construction companies.

Work, if approved, is proposed to start in spring 2024 with full completion by 2029.

Before then, we will involve our students and colleagues in shaping our plans.
