About my career
I chose to pursue my fashion education at Manchester Metropolitan University for its reputation and creative community. The UK, with its fashion heritage and multicultural environment, was the perfect setting to immerse myself in the industry. Manchester Met provided a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing me to thrive in the dynamic world of fashion. The course provided me with a deep understanding of materials, fabrics, and manufacturing processes, particularly in the realm of denim production. The modules focussing on textile science, product development, and quality assurance provided me with insights that I’ve been able to apply directly to my role as a Merchandising Manager. The supportive faculty and access to resources allowed me to explore my creativity and develop a strong foundation for my career.
After graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University, my first job was as a merchandiser at Artistic Denim Mills in Pakistan, which is known as one of the leading denim manufacturers in the country. Securing this position was a significant milestone for me, but it came with a few challenges including tough competition and navigating the job market. Through networking, continuous learning, and demonstrating my passion for the fashion industry, I was able to distinguish myself as a strong candidate for the role. Joining Artistic Denim Mills marked the beginning of an exciting career journey, where I had the opportunity to apply my skills, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to the company’s success.
As the current Merchandising Manager at Soorty Enterprises I am tasked with ensuring the execution of our merchandising processes, from concept to delivery to leading a dedicated team. We work to meet our clients’ needs through planning, and coordination to ensure that every product meets the highest standards and exceeds expectations.
My experience at Manchester Met has been instrumental in shaping my journey in the fashion industry, and I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me, equipping me with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in my field.
My top tip for students
One of the most valuable tips for finding a graduate job or progressing in your career is to network effectively. Networking allows you to connect with professionals in your field, including alumni from your university, industry experts, and potential employers. Building meaningful relationships with these individuals can provide valuable insights, advice, and opportunities for career advancement. Remember to be proactive, authentic, and open to new connections and opportunities along the way.
I’m inspired by
Individuals who face challenges head-on, overcoming obstacles with determination and resilience. Whether it’s personal setbacks, societal barriers, or global crises, these individuals refuse to be defined by adversity. Instead, they harness their experiences as catalysts for growth and transformation.
