Ecology and Environment Research Centre
Working to prevent further decline in the Earth’s ecosystems and finding new ways to relieve the growing pressure on the environment.
About
We lead the applied ecology and environment research at Manchester Met.
Our work ranges from the quantification and prediction of carbon emissions and their global impact, to the study of the effects of climate change on species diversity, ecosystem services and biological conservation.
Aligned with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, we produce world-class applied research in the areas of:
-
species biology and conservation
-
environmental change
-
sustainable environments
We’ve built global networks with conservation organisations, government and policy bodies, charities, companies and other academic institutions to ensure our research makes a difference - whether that’s reducing aviation emissions or saving threatened bird species in the tropics.
And through our award-winning outreach and engagement work we’re providing the scientific evidence to influence policy and shape the public debate about climate change and the protection of our natural resources.
Our members work around the world, collaborating with scientists and practitioners from over 60 countries, conducting original research, reviewing journal contributions, making funding recommendations and organising impactful outreach events.
We’re passionate about developing and encouraging the next generation of researchers, and have a thriving postgraduate research community and a wide range of taught and research masters.
There's been a huge shift in Heathrow’s engagement and communication with its local communities. It has listened to many of the residents’ concerns and encouraged them to shape future policies… In my view, there's no doubt that Manchester Met's research has influenced this.
