Facilities on campus

We have lots of cycle stands and shelters, as well as shower and changing facilities, across our All Saints and Birley campuses. Contact cycling@mmu.ac.uk to requires access to our secure cycle shelters.

Important information

The Business School cycle shelters will be closed from the 24th January until the 19th of March 2023 while works are ongoing on the John Dalton Access Road. For access to alternative shelters, please contact the Cycling Team on cycling@mmu.ac.uk

Cycle security

A cable lock can be cut in a couple of minutes, whilst a noisy power tool would be required to cut a quality D-Lock in that time. Try to lock both wheels and the frame of your bike to a stand and take any removable accessories, such as lights and bike bags with you.

Our Campus Security team offer a discounted ‘Gold Standard’ D-Lock at a reduced price of £10 (subject to availability) for students and staff. To purchase, visit the Manchester Met Security Office, Cambridge Halls (South), 62 Cavendish Street, Manchester.

By registering and marking your bike with a registrations scheme, you could be reunited with your bike in the event of it being stolen:

  • Immobilise is a free national registration database for cycles and other personal property
  • Bike Register offers a variety of affordable registration schemes

Make sure that your bike is insured in case of theft – your home contents insurance might cover your bike or you can purchase a separate insurance if it doesn’t.

You can park and lock your bike at one of our many cycle stands and shelters across campus. When at home, secure your bike out of view in a lockable shed, garage or inside your house.

Cycle routes and training

Plan your route, download maps and find out more about cycle on Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM) cycling web pages.

TfGM offer a range of cycling courses to improve your cycling skills, ability and confidence. If you learn and practise a few basic skills, and keep your bike and equipment in decent condition, cycling is an efficient and safe way to travel.

Walking

Fitting more walking into your day will help you feel healthier, improve your mood and is a cost-free way of getting around.

If you can’t do your whole journey on foot, why not try to walk for part of it? Visit Greater Manchester Walking website for inspiration, routes and maps, and groups.
