Alumnus, Simon Rutter is the former Executive Vice President, Head of European Business Operations at Sony PlayStation. He graduated from Manchester Met in 1990 with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies.

Simon has built a successful international commercial career in the sports and entertainment industries. His 25-year career at Sony PlayStation was accompanied by incredible growth, technological and organisational transformations and significant market evolution.

Adaption and Strategy Development are two areas of experience that Simon brings to the Board alongside his knowledge of the digital, creative and entertainment industries.

Simon has a strong interest in the pursuit of increasing social mobility. His belief that today’s educational inequalities become tomorrow’s income inequalities is a large part of what drives his commitment to education and to Manchester Metropolitan University.

Simon joined the Board of Governors on 1 October 2022 and is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee.
