Trans and non-binary employees and students

We are a sector leader in supporting trans and non-binary employees and students, through a host of initiatives, such as gender-neutral titles on our management systems, gender neutral facilities across campus, employee training and an active network of allies to support colleagues and students.

Changing Places

Changing Places (CP) are designed so that they are fully accessible and provide enough space and equipment for people who are not able to use the toilet independently. CP toilets are different to standard disabled toilets with extra features and more space to meet these needs.

The University boasts two fully compliant CP toilets in Brooks (room BRG.46) and Grosvenor East buildings.  It also has two enhanced accessible toilets in Lowry (2DWC.1) and Geoffrey Manton (LG.DWC.02+) buildings.

Chaplaincy Service

The University provides dedicated facilities and a chaplaincy service for our faith communities as well as a program of interfaith and secular activities throughout the year.

Quiet Spaces

To provide a comfortable environment for our neurodiverse community, we have ‘quiet spaces’.

Feeding Spaces on campus for employees and students

We have a list of rest facilities across campus which are suitable for breastfeeding which are provided to support our employees and students. Single occupancy offices, or other rooms may be used in accordance with local arrangements. First aid rooms are also available for use as they offer privacy with lockable doors and an area to lie down. Baby feeding spaces have a fridge which may be used to store expressed milk.

See our New and Expectant Mothers Guidance.

Culturally Inclusive Toilets Facilities

We have expanded on the scheme of inclusivity in toilet provision to design fully equipped, comfortable and hygienic shower toilet facilities for our community with specific cultural, religious and/or lifestyle requirements.
