Joe Ward Munrow
Joe Ward Munrow
Lecturer in Scriptwriting
My profile
Biography
I am an award-winning playwright and teacher.
My plays include: The Legend of Ned Ludd (Liverpool Everyman), Blue (The Gate Theatre, London and RWCMD), Screaming Heart (Winner of the Mercury Weinberger Playwriting Prize), Hercules and Phoebe (National Theatre “Let’s Play” Tour), Held and Dogs (Liverpool Playhouse Studio) and The Busker (BBC Radio 4).
I am interested in the accessibility of the arts and theatre as an agent of social and personal change. With this in mind I co-founded, alongside Nathan Powell, the community-driven theatre company New Step Theatre (www.newsteptheatre.com).
Originally from south London, for the past twenty years I have been based in Liverpool. I have previously led scriptwriting groups at the Liverpool Everyman, the Manchester Royal Exchange and the Royal Court, London. I have also previously been writer-on-attachment at both the Liverpool Everyman and the National Theatre Studio.
