How to enrol

Congratulations on starting your studies at Manchester Met.

Follow these steps to complete your enrolment. You must enrol each year of your studies.

If you have just received your confirmation email, it can take up to 48 hours for your password to start working. If you cannot log in after 48 hours, please call us.

Photo upload and identity verification are done when you start at the University or begin a new course of study, such as moving from an undergraduate degree to a postgraduate programme.

If you have any problems with your enrolment, call our helpline on 0161 247 5959. It’s open weekdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

  • 1) Upload your photo and identity verification

Start by uploading two photos for your Manchester Metropolitan student record:

    • a clear passport-style photo of yourself
    • a photo of your passport, driving licence or similar government-issued photo identity document

This is a required part of your enrolment and must be completed even if you have shown your passport and photo elsewhere during the application process.

Log in using the eight-digit student ID number found on your confirmation letter.

For your initial password, use your date of birth in the case-sensitive format ddMmmyy (for example 01Jan02).

Remember, it can take up to 48 hours after confirmation for your log-in to work.

  • 2) Complete your right to study check

Our Visa Compliance team must confirm your whereabouts when you arrive in the UK and check your immigration documents before you can enrol online. This is known as a right to study check.

You will not be able to enrol until several days after the right to study check is completed.

During this check, the International Student Visas team will assess your immigration status to confirm you are eligible to start your course.

If UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has told us they have used your CAS in a visa application, you will receive an email about how to complete a right to study check.

Documents you need to submit will include:

    • passport
    • travel visa
    • biometric residence permit
    • or proof you submitted a visa application to apply for entry or leave to remain in the UK

Find useful information on what we expect from you and what support you can expect from us on our study situations page.

If you have not received your visa yet, you should still complete any right to study forms sent to you so we can understand how long it will take you to arrive.

You can complete a right to study check up to and including the latest date you can arrive for your course. However, you cannot enrol fully for your course until you have arrived in the UK and provided a copy of your immigration permission.

  • 3) Complete your online enrolment

Enrol online using your student ID and password to log in.

It may take three or four days after submitting your right to study check information to become eligible to enrol.

You should complete online enrolment before starting your course. You must enrol each year you study with us.

Check your CAS letter to find out the last date you can arrive and enrol.

Online enrolment verifies we have you listed on the correct course. We will also ask you to confirm contact information and payment arrangements.

There are other questions we must ask for statistical and reporting purposes.

  • 4) Visit your Welcome page and find events

    Visit your Welcome page for:

    • a personalised induction from your faculty
    • information about your course
    • any reading or projects to complete before starting

You will also find reading lists and a timetable once it is published.

Some Welcome pages may not be immediately visible, so try back in a few days if you experience difficulty.

Students on some professional, research and modular courses may not have personalised inductions. If this affects you, your faculty will email you with this information.

For information on social and learning events to help you find your way, visit the Welcome events calendar.

  • 5) Collect your student identity card

We will have identity card collection stations in the Brooks Building from 27 August and in the Business School from 16 September.

After 4 October, identity cards (ID cards) may be collected during normal business hours from the Student Hub.

For more information and to book a time to collect your card, visit your Welcome pages.

Please allow three business days between completing online enrolment (including upload of photo and ID) and when you plan to collect your ID card.

If you are a distance learner, you may not need an ID card. If you would still like one, visit our identity card instructions page.

Once you have your student ID card you should carry it with you whenever you are on campus.

You will need a valid student ID card to access the Library and other facilities.

Make a note of your student ID number until you have your card.

  • 6) Attend your first session and get involved

You must attend all the scheduled course activities from the first day of term to ensure that you get the best start to your university studies.

Once you have enrolled, log in to MyMMU to access helpful resources including your email and Moodle, where you’ll find resources to help you prepare for studying at Manchester Met.

The Getting Ready to Learn module on Moodle will help you make a good start to your studies.

The University’s Rise Programme offers you a chance to learn beyond your course and start building your future self.

Visit the Student Life page regularly to discover opportunities and resources as well as to stay up-to-date with important University news.

The Student Union offers advice and representation, and is a good way to get involved in social opportunities, societies and clubs.
