We’re proud to be one of the UK’s greenest universities. We have been ranked in the top three of the People and Planet University League for the past seven years, and we’ve won awards along the way. But it’s not all about buildings and corporate initiatives - we want sustainability to be central to your experience as a student at Manchester Met.
While you are studying with us, we encourage you to get involved in our campaigns and extra-curricular activities, and take everyday actions that have a positive impact on people, planet and society. This includes opportunities for volunteering and paid roles throughout your time with us.
Making a difference
There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved and take action. This could be anything from becoming a Student Ambassador delivering sustainability campaigns, or campaigning during our annual Go Green fortnight, to reducing your carbon footprint by recycling, taking part in clothes swaps, and eating at our meat-free Grow cafe.
Learn and develop
Sustainability is embedded into our courses and extra-curricular activities - but if you’d like to explore further, we also offer opportunities for developing specialist understanding in the field. Getting involved through the placements, research projects and carbon literacy training we offer could be the first steps on your path to a career in sustainability.
Everyday life at Manchester Met
We encourage you to make sustainability part of your daily experience at university. The University’s Environment Team will be there for you to speak to at induction and welcome events, where a wide range of sustainability information is provided to support a more sustainable University student life.
We encourage all students, whether you’re living in Manchester Met accommodation or private accommodation, to take responsibility for their waste and recycling. We work with our sustainability ambassadors and residential advisors to encourage recycling, offering great prizes for recycling in student accommodation, and provide great recycling facilities and information about how to recycle.
