Part-time Engineering

We recognise that some students don’t have room in their lives for full-time study. That’s why we offer part-time options for two of our most popular degrees:

Part-time undergraduates who are already working in the engineering sector make a special contribution to the Department of Engineering and have distinct talents and insight that we welcome.

You’ll receive the same support as our full-time students, from teaching and resources, to laboratories and personal tutoring. During your studies you’ll be supported by a team of committed and enthusiastic teachers and researchers, who are experts in their chosen field.

Student Satisfaction

98% of BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering students say teaching staff support their learning well

Professional Accreditation

Our engineering degrees are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and many of our staff and students are active members of other institutions, such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Industry standard facilities

You’ll learn how to use industry-standard engineering software and have access to our suite of engineering workshops, as well as our 3D print centre of excellence, PrintCity and Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre, leading the way in harnessing renewable energy.

Investing in your future

We're continuing to strengthen our excellent teaching and learning facilities by investing £115m into a new state-of-the-art Science and Engineering building, opening in 2024, which will enhance collaboration between students, staff, and industry.

Carbon literacy training

We recognise the importance of creating a sustainable future. The world’s first carbon literate engineering students were trained at Manchester Met and we offer this training to all of our students in collaboration with the Carbon Literacy Project.

Opened in September 2022, our new engineering workshop features new equipment and will provide great opportunities to collaborate with fellow students and industry partners on live projects.

In our new computer-generated images (CGI), you can see what our redeveloped light engineering workshop looks like now its finished.

You will be able to use the space as part of timetabled sessions, as well as to progress your own projects outside of classroom hours, while being supervised by a workshop technician.

THE STREET
John Dalton Street

From September, the John Dalton building has featured new spaces that give students the flexibility to work independently or as part of a group, while on campus.

Students use these spaces to prepare for classes and write reports after interesting practical sessions.

Our new CGI image shows how the ground floor atrium in the John Dalton building looks now it has finished, with more space to discuss ideas and collaborate on interesting projects.
