How to pay

Pre-payment of rent

Once you have selected a room you’ll be asked to make a pre-payment of rent.

UK students

You’ll be required to make a pre-payment of rent of £200. This pre-payment will be deducted from your rent overall. The balance of the rent is collected in three parts, usually in October, January and April.

International students

You can pay the total rent in full when you select a room. Or, if you select University-owned or leased accommodation, you can pay £1,500 of the total rent as a pre-payment to secure the room. This pre-payment will be deducted from your rent overall. The balance of the rent will be collected in three parts, usually in October, January and May.

Making your accommodation payments

Once you’ve confirmed your booking, you’ll receive an email at the start of September with instructions on how to set up a rental payment plan.

The installment dates are:

  • 23 October 2024
  • 22 January 2025
  • 14 May 2025

These dates are dependent on when you have booked a room. Students who moved in from September to October 2024 will have the above dates.

Paying in full

If you wish to pay your accommodation fees in full before you arrive, you’ll need to select ’payment in advance’. You’ll require a valid debit or credit card.

Paying for a room with a partner provider

When applying for partner accommodation, you’ll be asked to make a pre-payment of £200 and provide a UK guarantor. Instalments will be due on the same dates as above, but the percentage may differ for each.

A guarantor is a third party, for example, a family member who agrees to pay the rent if for any reason you as the tenant cannot.

If you are unable to secure a guarantor visit Housing Hand which provides a guarantor service to guarantee the rent for the whole of your tenancy through a monthly subscription.

If you cannot provide a UK guarantor you will be required to pay the rent upfront, in full.
