Biography
Riccardo joined Manchester Metropolitan University as Professor of Innovation Management and Head of Department - Marketing, International Business and Tourism, in March 2024. In his previous roles Riccardo acquired extensive senior leadership experience in both public and private Higher Education providers.
Riccardo has affiliations with sector wide organisations, for example having served as member of the the Learning, Teaching and Student Experience committee with the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS). He is also actively involved with other international universities, in a variety of roles.
Riccardo holds a PhD from Universita’ Carlo Cattaneo - LIUC (Italy) and is currently pursuing a DBA in Higher Education Management at the University of Bath.
Interests and expertise
Riccardo’s research is mainly concerned with the impact of social networks on a wide range of organizational phenomena. He regularly employs Social Network Analysis to explore issues such as innovation generation and diffusion and collaboration, often in combination with other approaches.
As part of his DBA, Riccardo is now exploring the managerial challenges faced by University Deans.
Riccardo established and co-directed a Scholarship Group at the University of Greenwich, creating a space to promote pedagogic research and practice.
Impact
Riccardo has extensive experience in carrying out academic and commissioned research in a wide range of sectors, including, amongst others, textile, aerospace, healthcare, open source software and footwear. He delivered project in Italy, England, Ireland and Indonesia, attracting research income from international sources.
He regularly presents outputs from his work to both academic and industry audiences.
Teaching
Riccardo has extensive experience of teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate taught and doctoral level in different countries. He conflidently delivers modules in strategic management, international business, organisational behaviour, innovation management and social network analysis. He also convened methodological summer and winter schools in Social Network Analysis.
Supervision
Riccardo has so far supported 4 students to successful completion of their doctoral studies and is involved in the ongoing supervision of other PhD candidates.
Riccardo is interested in supervising students interested in employing a relational perspective in exploring issues within strategic management and innovation management.
