Interests and expertise
I joined Manchester Met in October 2015 as a Senior Lecturer, having previously worked as a Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Prior to that I had extensive practice experience as a front line practitioner, trainer and manager. Initially I worked in the field of children and families before moving into adult and youth justice. My most recent practice is in the field of specialist domestic violence and abuse where I maintain a practice base.
I work across the BA, MA and apprenticeship programmes in social work. I am inter professional learning, simulation and employability lead for social work and skills development lead for the MA programme. My role involves working closely with students, employer partners, departmental colleagues, other professional programmes in the university to develop simulated, active and active approaches to teaching and learning.
Projects
My research interest include:
Domestic violence and Abuse/Gender Based Violence
Teaching and Learning with a particular focus on active and simulation based education
Teaching
I am practice focussed and aim to deliver teaching that connects to real life situations and supports career readiness. I utilise active and simulated approaches to learning which take students on a journey through what they need to know on a conceptual level to what that looks and sounds like when connected and applied to real world scenarios.
I am firmly committed to the voice of lived experience in social work education and work closely with our colleagues who are experts through experience.
My teaching includes theories and methods for practice, strengthening relationships and wellbeing, skills development including employability skills and social work, society and lived experience.
