My profile

Biography

I have over 20 years of experience working in education including in HE, secondary, primary, SEND and alternative provisions. My passion and research areas include creative and innovative pedagogies, as well as experiential and active learning.

I teach on the MA/PG Cert in HE and lead on a series of strategic projects that operate across the University, these include:

  • Leading the Innovation Scholarship Scheme - a cutting edge provision that enables teaching staff, and those in student-facing professional services roles, to lead our institutional approach to teaching, learning and student support. These initiatives are enacting the key components of our Education Strategy.
  • Oversee the implementation and success of our strategic Communities of Practice - these support an institutional conversation about critical themes in teaching, learning, curriculum design and student support.
  • Academic Lead for Future me plan which is a professional and personal development framework for students. In this role I work across the University Employability Leads in Faculties and with the Careers and Employability Service in particular.
  • Lifelong Loan Entitlement Short Course pilot - I am programme leader for this trailblazing pilot which was part of an Office for Student successful bid. The innovative 12-week courses have been designed in partnership with employers, industry leaders and potential students to create a highly flexible pathway for students to set their own pace and build up to a full Cert HE (Level 4) if they wish. The courses are primarily aimed at those in the Early Years sector, within education, health and social care. We have mapped our courses against the new GMCA Workforce Competency Framework and are working together to promote the opportunities across Greater Manchester.

Alongside my role at Manchester Met I am a vice-chair of governors at a specialist provision for students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and the co-founder of the women and girls’ cricket section, now the largest in the county.
