Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer with 14 years teaching experience and a FHEA. 

I lead the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visitor) PGDip Programme. 

My background is Adult Nursing (BNurs Hons) and I’ve been a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting) for over 20 years. I have a PGCert in Higher Education and NMC Registered Teacher, I am an NMC Registered Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber

I’m a Fellow of the Institute of Health Visiting and a member of MMU Institute of Children’s Futures.

I lead the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visitor) Programme. This includes leading and teaching the following modules;

  • Foundations of Health Visiting 
  • Responding to Contemporary Needs in Health 
  • Specialist Practice in Health Visiting
  • Quality Leadership in Action
  • Assessing Infants and Children (0 - 5 Years)
  • Empowering Populations to Enhance Health and Well-Being (Health Visiting)

Research outputs

My research interests include:

  • the influences and emotional impact of social media and the wider environment on parenting and children’s lived experiences 
  • breastfeeding, in particular; how societal and cultural changes can be achieved and the most effective ways of enabling mothers to breast feed for as long as they wish
  • school readiness
  • how the effectiveness of health visiting can be evidenced
