My profile
Biography
With a BSc (Hons) in Paediatric Nursing and a specialisation in Neonatal Intensive Care, I bring a wealth of clinical expertise and a dedication to nursing excellence. My career spans extensive experience in high-acuity neonatal care, where I have refined the precision, adaptability, and empathy required to excel in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
Advancing professional standards and education within nursing is central to my work. I design module material around paediatrics, actively supporting both emerging and experienced practitioners through reflective practice, collaborative learning, and peer mentorship, all within an environment that fosters continual growth. My ongoing commitment to clinical practice ensures that my expertise remains relevant and directly applicable to teaching and leadership.
Leadership and innovation are core elements of my professional ethos. Collaborating with departmental teams, I pioneered a paediatric simulation program that has become integral to enhancing clinical training and supporting critical decision-making skills. These initiatives enrich the educational landscape for nursing students, underscoring the importance of exposure training across all fields of nursing.
As a member of the Manchester Met Institute for Children’s Futures, my passion for safeguarding and nurturing future generations drives my contributions to child health initiatives, promoting health awareness, and empowering communities with the resources needed to foster healthier futures.
Interests and expertise
Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, I craft a dynamic learning environment tailored to each level. With undergraduates, I focus on building a solid foundation in nursing principles, fostering clinical confidence, and encouraging curiosity. My approach emphasises active learning, hands-on practice, and case-based discussions, which are crucial for developing essential skills and critical thinking early in their careers.
For postgraduate students, mainly those training as school nurses and health visitors, I concentrate on deepening clinical expertise, critical analysis, and reflective practice, blending advanced concepts with practical applications. I challenge these students to explore complex case studies, engage in evidence-based practice, and refine their leadership abilities. This approach prepares them to excel in community and public health roles, equipping them with the skills and confidence to make meaningful contributions to child health and wellbeing.
