Biography

After completing his Physical Education (PE) teacher training in the Netherlands (2000), I have taught in the Netherlands, Scotland and England. I joined MMU in September 2014 to lead the PGCE PE course. My QTS registration is for both Primary and Secondary Physical Education (PE).I completed my Masters in Leading and Managing PE in 2013. My educational portfolio includes roles as subject teacher, School Sports Co-ordinator, Subject Leader and Head of Department. I have successfully taught and lead in PE and sport in comprehensive primary, secondary and SEN schools, as well as, further and higher education.

Over the years my personal activities have ranged from competitive team and individual sports, as well as, dance, martial arts and outdoor activities.

Teaching

Why do I teach?

I am passionate about the benefits and joys of motor learning and motor development in playful and attractive learning environments. Teaching Physical Education and related sports content has been an extension of my own rewarding physical development and sports experiences since a very young. In a time where both children and adults are struggling to engage and develop healthy patterns of physical exercise and movement it is adament to share best and attractive practice with students. Working closely with colleagues and academic, post graduate teacher trianing is a stimulating and cutting edge working environment.

How I’ll teach you

My teaching methods are varied from lecture led to student led content. From experience students appreciate the dissemination of a clear structure and knowledge base that gives a foundation for their teaching career. However, they also want to be able to experiment with and discover learning and teaching opportunities that are unique and innovative. Throughout their studies students are expeceted to become more critical of existing knowledge and understanding in their subject area and get increasing oppportunities to develop individual aspects of their teaching practices.
