Teaching

Why do I teach?

I am really fascinated by Internet of Things technologies and wireless communications. I am particularly interested in research and development of communication technologies for IoTs and Cyber Physical Systems, Industrial IoT, Agriculture, electrical energy monitoring/management, transport, water, critical infrastructures protection, home automation.

Why study…

In the age of the Internet of Things, environments and devices are becoming more connected and have more information associated with them. It is predicted that there will be more than 20 billion things connected to the internet by 2020. Most of these will not be computers, tablets or even mobile phones but they they willl be embedded and ordinary devices.

Different environments (industrial, Medical, Agricultural, Cities) made up of various entities including vehicles, buildings, manufacturung machines,  clothing, portable devices and other objects will have the ability to sense, analyse, communicate, network and produce new information. These devices, the systems and infrastructure they use, and the applications to process the data all need developing and maintaining. Central to that are the embedded computers, software, networks and applications that could be developed.

This course has been designed to provide the specialist knowledge and expertise required for a professional career in Computer (embedded systems) and Networking Technology. It combines the application of essential facts, concepts, theories and principles of computer (embedded systems) and network technology and the underpinning science and mathematics with practical skills acquired through work in the laboratories and workshops.

This course has been developed in partnership with Siemens connected curriculum through their academic  Academy and integrates training material which will allow you to achieve professional status.

You will be able to synthesise solutions and formulate designs through the use of PC laboratories, embedded devices (Arduino, Raspberry Pi etc.) and Cisco Networking devices (switches, routers). You will also have the opportunity to work on live company projects with other students.
