Dr Taysir Dyhoum

My profile

Biography

I am an enthusiastic and highly committed educator, researcher, and influencer in HE, holding a PhD in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Leeds (UK), a PGC LTHE qualification, and currently working towards an MA Degree in HE, and a Fellow of HEA (Advance HE). I also have intensive teaching experience up to the PhD level in both Blended Learning and Distance Learning modes and extensive research experience in numerical analysis, mathematical & statistical modelling, and data analytics.

I worked in HE abroad as a Lecturer in Mathematics at Misurata University (Libya) at age 21. As soon as I arrived in the UK, I worked at the University of Leeds as a Postgraduate Tutor providing high-quality learning and teaching practice to Leeds home and international students in various mathematical and statistical modules for more than three years during my PhD study. After that, I worked for two straight years as a Lecturer of Mathematics at TTE Technical Institute- Middlesbrough (UK), leading the Maths Team and delivering Further Mathematics courses and other commercial courses for engineers and technicians seeking BTEC and NVQ qualifications. Following a progression to work as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, then a Lecturer in Computing at Arden University- Coventry, where I was a Module Leader and Creator for multiple data analytics modules at levels (Foundation & 4-7) and MSc Dissertation supervisor and the Academic Integrity Office for the Computing & IT School. In Oct 2022, I joined the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire (UK) as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics, leading, lecturing, and tutoring in various foundation and undergraduate modules. A research proposal I wrote in computer vision and inverse problems has won a fund of £85,000 to sponsor a PhD—studentship opportunity on Efficient Deep Surrogate Models for Inverse Problems. I also received the University of Central Lancashire Annual Golden Roses Award (Lecturer of the Year 2022). Currently, I am working as a Senior Lecturer in Artificial intelligence in Computing and Mathematics at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am also the Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) AI and Data Science programme and the External Examiner for theMSc Sensors, Data, and Management Programme (Liverpool John Moores University).

I have been an official Mentor at The University of Leeds Mentoring Networking (SUMAC) since 2017. Throughout my time in academia, I continue offering ongoing pastoral support to students and coaching and mentoring colleagues.

I am accepting new PhD students.
