Biography

Dr Mary Joy Baloyo is an Academic, Researcher and Leader at the Manchester Metropolitan University, Strategy, Enterprise and Sustainability Department. Mary Joy is a Lecturer in both Postgraduate and Undergraduate level and has has published her research in top-ranking international journals. She is an inspirational leader in her field and continues to influence others in her teaching and academic citizenship.

Mary Joy has established research and expertise on the areas of entrepreneurship, gender and intersectionality. Mary Joy’s passion for conducting qualitative research was founded from her primary interest (close to her heart) on tackling inequality, improve employment/work and impact to policy interventions.

Interests and expertise

Mary Joy is an active Researcher at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her active involvement in research communities shows her commitment to exchanging knowledge, such as, the Decent, Work and Productivity Research Centre and Sylvia Pankhurst Gender and Diversity Research Centre.

Over the years, she is an established Mentor, Supervisor, Coach and Volunteer in her field, including Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE), Critical Realism Network and Northern Advanced Research Training Initiative (NARTI).

Mary Joy’s current research explores employment/work, entrepreneurship, gender, migration and care work. She works closely with knowledge exchange research centres and communities within, as well as outside, Manchester Metropolitan University.

Her work is nuanced, relevant and impactful, continuing to conversate, engage and contribute to key stakeholders - nationally and internationally. She is interested in creating partnerships across her field, collaborating with students, colleagues, individuals and organisations.
