Biography
An impassioned advocate of equity in education and work, who enjoys watching football, playing netball & is constantly trying to snatch time to read for fun.
My purpose is to support and enhance the success of our students, with a particular focus on student groups who are marginalised and minoritised. It is my personal mission that every student thrives and fulfils their potential.

Community, charity and NGO links
I was a trustee of the amazing national mental health charity Touchstone https://touchstonesupport.org.uk/, a fantastic organisation that seeks to open up access, support and opportunity for marginalised people in our communities (2012 - 2023)
I was Chair of the Finance and Business Development committee for Touchstone (Interim - 2018 & 2022 - 2023)
I was also a governor for Doncaster Colleges Group (2021-2022)
PhD supervision
I am an inter-disciplinary researcher - with interests and expertise that spans both social sciences (education, sociology) and applied sciences (accounting)
My expertise is in racialised experience, equity in education, graduate employability and work-readiness & ethnicity and gender representation in C-Suite/Executive boards.
I am interested in supervision of students undertaking doctoral studies in these listed areas.
I am currently supervising two doctoral students at The Manchester Metropolitan University:
First supervisor - Sabina Mayo (Department of Education) - Exploring Black women’s experiences when navigating the educational pipeline from undergraduate to postgraduate studies
Second supervisor - Muzammal Mann (Department of Sociology) - An assessment of a work-readiness framework and it’s mediating factors on student and graduate outcomes at Manchester Metropolitan University
Research Funding
I have received c.£445,000 as a PI and c.£700,000 as a Co-I in research funding from Research England/UKRI, Advance HE, JISC, HEIF, ERASMUS, Laidlaw Foundation, Q-Step & Nuffield Foundation.
I was the academic supervisor to a study exploring The dichotomy of students that want a sandwich placement yet fail to engage with support services; do universities really understand the needs and motivations of the WP students that fail to secure placements by Dilay Cagliyan on an ASET funded placement (2023)

Teaching
Supervision
To date I have supervised over 100 postgraduate taught students’ dissertations. I have supervised a wide range of dissertations in the area of accounting and finance.
I have extensive experience in supporting students undertaking projects that investigate representation on executive boards and the link with corporate performance, financial literacy/education and value creation/purpose led responsible business decision making.
Research outputs
My research interests are wide and varied. They are largely linked to student access, participation and success in (accounting) education. They include; race in education, accounting education & pedagogy, student transition from higher education to the graduate labour market, professional identity formation and development, skills development and articulation, work-readiness, racialised student and staff experiences and gender representation of executive directors and the relationship with corporate performance.
