Biography

Aris Alexoulis started his academic career doing research in Rehabilitation Robotics and since then he has expanded his interest in the field of Industrial Automation. He is a member of the Automation Systems Centre (ASCent), at Manchester Met, which delivers consultancy services along with training and certification on the topics of Industrial Automation (PLCopen) and Communications (PROFIBUS, PROFINET) to its industrial partners. He is also the internal lead for Connected Curriculum which is a partnership between Siemens, FESTO and universities that aims to bridge the skills gap in Industrial Automation. He is working with SMEs to support them in their digitalisation journey and has supervised several live projects. He sits on the project review panel for Made Smarter North West investing in companies adopting digital technologies. He is also the Programme Leader for the newly developed MSc Programme in Engineering Smart Systems, a multidisciplinary programme that aims to support its students develop the necessary skills that will enable them to become drivers of the fourth industrial revolution.

Currently, his time is split between his role at Manchester Met and Siemens where he is seconded to the Connected Curriculum team where he is responsible for the development of academic resources and industrial case studies around Industry 4.0 and Siemens’s PLM suite of software in collaboration with the partner universities.

Funded by The Royal Society looking at the use of a bioinspired sensor mimicking mammalian whiskers into tactile sensing applications for robotics.
