My profile
Biography
I have worked at Manchester Met since 2022. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am a member of Manchester Met Institute for Children’s Futures.
I am a registered social worker, since completing my MA in Social Work at the University of Manchester in 2012, with a dissertation on ‘An Examination of the Association between Child Sexual Abuse and ‘Hearing Voices’ and the implications for Social Work Practice’. My first role post-qualifying was in Manchester as an agency social worker on their child protection locality team. I then started work in Bury on their Safeguarding Team in 2013. I moved to working in Adoption in 2016 when I joined the Adoption Team at Tameside MBC, before becoming seconded into Adoption Now Regional Adoption Agency in November 2017. I bring knowledge of contemporary social work to my teaching as I continue to sit on an Adoption Panel as a independent panel member.
The areas in which I teach include, child development theories, the impact of abuse or neglect on child development, anti-discriminatory practice, legislation relevant to social work practice when working with children and families and adoption services regulations, procedures and guidance. I have also been fortunate in being able to attend a variety of training whilst in practice, including Blended Families, Transracial Adoption, Virtual Reality headset kits, Adult Attachment with Lydia Guthrie and Therapeutic Parenting with Sarah Naish.
