Biography

Dr Ben Hall is Lecturer in Quantitative Criminology in the Sociology Department within the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU). Originally contracted to work within the Big Data Center (BDC), Ben moved to PERU where he worked on Horizon2020’s Growing up in digital Europe (GUIDE) helping to build Europe’s first continent wide birth cohort survey. Ben was also the project manager alongside his duties as a research associate on a project relating to social investment and homelessness.

In 2023 Ben moved to a full-time lectureship in Quantitative Criminology.

Ben is the deputy programme lead for sociology.

Before joining PERU Ben was an associate lecturer in the Psychology department at MMU contributing to the teaching and learning of undergraduate to postgraduate courses whilst completing his PhD.

Interests and expertise

Ben is a lecturer contributing to a number of units related to core criminology, quantitative methods and evaluation.

Originally a criminologist and psychologist, within his research role in PERU Ben has branched out to a wide range of disciplines within evaluation more generally. He has contributed to outputs relating to child wellbeing, violence reduction, social investment and homelessness.
