Research: University of Ghana Speech and Language Therapy
A collaboration with the University of Ghana to develop services for people with communication disabilities.
Summary
Research summary
- Ongoing since March 2015
The initial project aimed to agree goals, activities, priorities and support needs for the development of services for people with communication disabilities in Ghana.
Through a series of visits between Manchester Met and the University of Ghana, the research teams:
- developed an agreement for ongoing collaboration
- supported the establishment of a masters degree programme in speech and language therapy
- identified opportunities to collaborate on research
Research outputs
The project produced:
- two theories of change related to the development of services in Ghana
- guidelines for the knowledge skills and attitude profile required of external support personnel
- collaborative research plans
The work led to a further project with Róisín McNaney, Lorraine Hudson and others to co-design a set of locally appropriate digital tools to enhance speech and language therapy training in Ghana.
