  • Ongoing since March 2015

The initial project aimed to agree goals, activities, priorities and support needs for the development of services for people with communication disabilities in Ghana.

Through a series of visits between Manchester Met and the University of Ghana, the research teams:

  • developed an agreement for ongoing collaboration
  • supported the establishment of a masters degree programme in speech and language therapy
  • identified opportunities to collaborate on research

Research outputs

The project produced:

  • two theories of change related to the development of services in Ghana
  • guidelines for the knowledge skills and attitude profile required of external support personnel
  • collaborative research plans

The work led to a further project with Róisín McNaney, Lorraine Hudson and others to co-design a set of locally appropriate digital tools to enhance speech and language therapy training in Ghana.
