Research: Rethinking Healthy City post-COVID-19
Comparing the responses to the coronavirus pandemic in the UK and China to inform Chinese public health strategies.

This project is examining how to make cities safer and protect residents from public health threats.
Most countries put in place welfare policies and infection control measures in response to the COVID19 pandemic. But these emergency steps varied between countries - both in effectiveness at controlling infection and the wider impact on people’s health and the economy.
A multi-disciplinary panel of researchers will compare the approach to managing the pandemic in China and the UK, two countries with contrasting responses.
They will look at:

mobility restrictions at different stages of the pandemic

exposure to health risks (infection) in different places
-
inequality in perceptions and interventions for the risks between different social groups
Evidence from the project about mobility, exposure and inequality will be used to inform China’s Healthy City 2030 initiative, an ambitious plan to improve the health of people living in urban areas.
