16 Days - Reading: Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa
Reading
Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa will be sharing pieces from her live literature show ‘Cane Corn & Gully’, adapted from her highly acclaimed debut poetry collection. Safiya navigates the historical narratives of Barbadian women, and through their dances she learns valuable lessons on womanhood, love and ice-cream sandwiches. This literary experience will share ground-breaking research on black history and may feature historical tales some audiences may find disturbing.
This event is part of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a series of poetry readings, panels and workshops led by academics in the field. Our events examine how poetry can create transformational social change in partnership with the public and policymakers.
Please note that this event won’t take place in Manchester Poetry Library – please join us in Manchester Metropolitan University’s Lowry Building, Boundary Street West, Manchester M15 6BR, Room 403.
