Swapna Mistry
MBA Degree Apprenticeship, National institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
Why did you choose a degree apprenticeship?
I wanted to progress to a senior leadership role. The MBA apprenticeship will equip me with a strong knowledge base across finance and contract management, operational as well as strategic management, knowledge of micro and macroeconomics and human resources management for the next stage in my career.
The prospect of learning from the experience of my peers on this programme with their diverse professional backgrounds and the knowledge of academic experts presented a stimulating opportunity. This journey will give me the opportunity to reflect and try new and different approaches at work.
Looking back over your time so far, how have you found the whole experience?
The last five months have been an amazing experience. I feel stimulated by everything new that I am learning, discussions with my peers on the course and the new career options that I had not considered. I also value the additional support provided by my executive coach.
How are you hoping a degree apprenticeship will support your career progression?
It has provided me with a clear focus on what I would like to achieve and instilled more confidence in seeking new opportunities at work. Being on the apprenticeship is helping me widen my professional networks and sphere of influence, both internally and externally. The apprenticeship is proving to be an enabler for more collaborative working within my organisation.
Would you recommend a degree apprenticeship?
Yes, most certainly! This is a unique opportunity that is aimed at both professional and personal development.
This MBA apprenticeship programme is truly exceptional, as it lets you consider practical applications of a wide range of management theories and practices within your organisation.
Do you have any advice for future degree apprentices?
My suggestion would be to make the most of this unique opportunity, to stay focused, be inquisitive and ask questions, and have a structured plan to meet the deadlines!
