SHAPING THE FUTURE WORKFORCE WITH DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS
Meet Jill Coyle, Apprentice Market Lead at Nestlé, the world’s largest food and beverage company. Jill shared with us how degree apprenticeships can shape and strengthen the workforce, by bringing in fresh talent and supporting current staff to develop new skills.
BOOSTING PRODUCTIVITY AND GROWTH
As an employer, recruiting early career individuals injects new generational thinking, technologies and approaches into our business, reflecting and responding to our changing customer base. Supporting existing employees to develop new learning and skills, ensures we build a deeper skillset as we continually improve our processes and productivity, ultimately boosting growth.
Degree apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to build technical skills and knowledge whilst also developing life skills and behaviours.
These routes offer opportunities for those starting their careers as well as existing employees who want to continue lifelong learning and/or change career paths. Nestlé’s degree apprentices have significant roles in key teams, such as Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Quality as we shape our workforce for today, tomorrow and the future.
SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS GAPS
Nestlé has been a supporter of degree apprentice learning since the beginning, with individuals building and shaping their skills and careers in key teams such as Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain.
Via degree apprentice programmes such as Digital Marketer, we are injecting new skills, techniques and thinking into our teams, which reflects today’s and tomorrow’s market and industry needs.
By building these skills via apprenticeships, we can attract a more diverse workforce and we can shape behaviours and build life skills such as resilience and curiosity at the same time as we embed technical skills.
Our experience has shown that by offering a breadth of experience early in an individual’s career, they build a solid foundation for the future, creating a more rounded and skilled employee with the attributes that enable them to be successful in their current role and set them up for future opportunities.
CREATING EQUITY IN THE WORKPLACE
Degree apprenticeships open up opportunities for us to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce, representative of the communities in which we live and work.
Talent is everywhere but opportunities are not and we see degree apprenticeships as one way of providing greater access to opportunity.
Nestlé works especially hard to support young people as they navigate those first steps into the workforce, transitioning from education.
Degree apprenticeships offer young people who have the calibre for a higher level of learning but thought such opportunities might be out of their reach. Nestlé is a big supporter of degree apprenticeships which we believe can make a positive contribution to society.
