What is your enterprise?

To design and make products/ garments which reflect the punk essence. Using clothing and other products to explore the societal impacts behind the punk movement of the 1970s. I aimed to use this project to reflect on how we are in a similar economical situation currently, and how the clothing that we choose to wear depending on society is influenced by this. As part of this project, I thought that it was extremely important to complete in-depth research into what was happening during the 1970s which had a huge impact on many other day-to-day things.

Why did you apply for the Flash Fund?

I applied for the flash fund to enable me to fully explore the different ways to create these products; to experiment with new and innovative technologies that I hadn’t previously used such as sublimation printing. I also wanted to ensure that I could have access to good quality fabrics to create my product with.

What has the funding allowed you to do?

I have used the funding to be able to pay for specialised sublimation printing paper which I could then use within samples for my project. I have also used the flash fund to purchase interesting and unique trims and decorative elements for my designs which I otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. The flash fund has helped me to be able to purchase books that I could use for the research part of my project, this allowed me to better understand my concept.

Would you recommend others apply for the Flash Fund?

Yes, definitely as it has allowed me to have access to new technologies that I may not have been able to use if I hadn’t applied for the flash fund. I think it meant that I was able to be more creative and experimental within my project which I feel has been reflected in my outcomes for this project. It also helped me to gain access to lots of information throughout my research in this project.
