Student, MA International Relations and Global Communications
1. What do you like most about your course?
My intention for my masters was to find further study that both challenged me and enhanced my career. The opportunity to study a refined MA with an interesting intersect between international relations and global communications really drew me, especially as this course is one of the only of its kind that has this niche focus. The flexibility of the MA was also an attractive factor; the opportunity to pursue academic research in areas of my personal interest in both international relations and communications, helping to drive my knowledge, passion and skills.
2. What made you choose Manchester Met?
Being from Manchester, I had always regarded Manchester Met as an excellent institution. The course was the driving factor for me, as researching local institutions and their politics and international relations offer, none were as attractive as this degree. Manchester Met offered the flexibility of hybrid learning, allowing me to study part-time around full-time work, which was a huge factor for me as I was not interested in pausing my professional development. Manchester Met also had a huge community feel, especially on campus – this was a lovely benefit.
3. What skills do you feel you have gained/developed during your studies at Manchester Met?
Complex academic and data research through various modules throughout my career, seamlessly feeding into my work in my current role. I have gained sound understanding of subject matter relevant or related to my career, providing greater complexity to my work. Also, the opportunities to develop connections with academics and other colleagues alongside the MA has proved extremely valuable.
4. Did you attend any lectures from guest speakers?
I attended a research conference - the opportunity to be in a space with academics from other institutions (globally) and engage in discussion was thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial.
5. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about?
I would like to thank and celebrate the fantastic academics who made my time at Manchester Met a truly special one. Their openness to conversation, support on all matters and their ability to make all content interesting and engaging was brilliant. A big thank you to all of them, with a special shout out to Adi, the programme leader.
