ABOUT MY CAREER

I completed my teacher training through Manchester Met and then decided to study for an MA in Education. I loved both experiences. The reasons that I chose this University were because it had a great reputation, particularly for Education. It is vibrant and has great research facilities.

I started my career as a Secondary English teacher, progressing to senior leadership level and then moved into working in primary education several years ago. My current role as the principal means I cover strategic oversight of the school alongside teaching across both key stage 1 and 2.

White studying at Manchester Met, I gained research skills, educational and theoretical knowledge, as well as critical thinking and how to apply these to practise.

Since graduating I have developed my career through seeking out further qualifications such as the NPQML, NPQSL, NPQH and other CPD.

Due to being passionate about writing and supporting teachers, I have written a book with a friend and colleague entitled ‘Well-being Wins for Teachers’, published by Routledge. It is due to be released in the summer. Each chapter uses a celebrity and icon as a focus and discusses what we can learn from them in relation to well-being. It also highlights the importance of leaders in schools modelling the focus on well-being and balance. Overall, the book highlights how it is often the little things that can make a huge impact and essentially help to recruit and retain great teachers.

MY TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS

Share your goals and aspirations and ask advice from people whom you look up tp. Always enjoy your learning experiences as it opens doors.

I’M INSPIRED BY

I have undoubtedly been inspired by my own teachers over the years. They have shaped who I am and the teacher and leader I have become. My family have made me believe that dreams come true with hard work and self-belief. They are my ultimate inspiration!
