Student, MA Applied Linguistics
1. What do you like most about your course?
I love how linguistics gives a broad knowledge of English to second language students like me. I also like how I have the opportunity to pick modules that align with my language and identity, and that I am able to explore all aspects of English language teaching and learning on this course.
2. What made you choose Manchester Met?
Manchester Met is one of the best universities in the world to study, in my opinion. They provide a comfortable environment for both local and international students and a safe space for students to explore their academic self and reasoning. They give students the time and space to take a break where needed and explore their mental health. They also provide students with employability support including advice workshops, industry networking, networking opportunities with guest speakers and career fairs.
3. What were your lecturers like and how did they help you to succeed throughout your course?
My lecturers have been lovely - they are always ready and able to help in all aspects of a student’s life.
4. Did you complete a placement, or have you taken part in any extracurricular activities/projects alongside your studies?
I engaged as a student ambassador for open day events to speak with prospective Manchester Met students on the advantages and importance of being a student at the university. This helped me network and explore employability events.
5. Did you choose to get language teaching experience at the university?
Yes. The experience and assessment tasks will help me enhance my employability and focus on practical realities of classroom teaching and learning.
