Biography
BA (Hons) (Cantab), MSc, PhD, CPsychol
I am a Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology, with a particular interest in Social Psychology. My research interests include taking a multi-stakeholder approach to explore the experiences of health and health services.
My post-doctoral study at the University of Liverpool, funded by the ESRC, explored the experiences and perspectives of consent and recruitment practices in critical care settings across England. Using a mixed-methods approach, we recruited critical care patients, family members, and healthcare practitioners. The findings of this study have informed good practice guidance for recruitment and consent procedures, in consultation with an advisory group of former critical care patients/relatives, clinicians, and ethicists.
In collaboration with a team of former critical care patients/relatives, clinicians, and critical care charities, I developed an informative animation about how research is conducted in intensive care units. This animation was funded by the Knowledge Exchange & Impact, Public Engagement Voucher Scheme at the University of Liverpool.
For my PhD study, funded by the MRC, I explored how moving to a care home can impact an older person’s sense of identity, through interviews and observations with residents, visitors, and care home staff.
