The North West Film Archive’s project “Calling Blighty” was recently featured on BBC Breakfast, with a member of the team, Geoff Senior, showing reporter Jayne McCubbin around the vaults at the archive. Geoff explains the importance of the Calling Blighty films at the time they were produced in World War Two, as well as the search to find the relatives of those people who sent the moving personal messages captured on film. 🎥 You can watch the clip via Box of Broadcasts:

Feminism and conflict in Northern Ireland: the evidence from Spare Rib – a new display in Special Collections. The exhibition examines the perception of women in Northern Ireland during The Troubles through the lens of the women’s liberation magazine, Spare Rib. Using our collections to show how many historical narratives have overlooked the role of women and feminism during the conflict. Curated by Faye Thomas, an MA student studying Public and History and Heritage at Manchester Met, during her placement in Special Collections.
