Manchester Met retains University of the Year title at Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards
Manchester Metropolitan has been named University of the Year at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2023 for the second year in a row.
The Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the accomplishments of apprentices and highlight the commitment of employers and training providers to providing equality and diversity.
The panel of judges were once again impressed with Manchester Met’s commitment to equality and diversity, which is at the forefront of the apprentice journey and ensures apprentices are supported throughout their experience.
The University was also commended for its dedication to delivering high quality, life changing degree apprenticeships, ensuring these opportunities reach underrepresented groups.
Liz Gorb, Director of Apprenticeships at Manchester Met, said: “We are very proud to be a leading provider of degree apprenticeships and are once again pleased to be recognised embedding both equality and diversity at the core of our life-transforming programmes.
“This recognition is testament to the impact of our work, and we’ll continue to foster equality and diversity as part of our key values.”
Degree apprentices from Manchester Met were also recognised at the awards with Christina Dimitriu named winner of the ‘Health, Medical and Social Care Award’, while Zain Khan was highly commended in the ‘Retail, Hospitality and Tourism’ category.
Zain Khan said: “It is an honour to be recognised within the retail category. I know from first-hand experience how underrepresented apprenticeships are in the Asian community, and this is something that needs to change.
“Being highly commended motivates me to continue my hard work and inspire other employees at my workplace and people within my community.”
As a pioneer of degree apprenticeships since 2015, Manchester Met works with more than 540 employers and has guided over 2,400 apprentices through its programmes.
With a diverse range of subject areas, the University provides 18 courses that address industry skill gaps ranging from health and science to digital and leadership, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The University is committed to promoting equality and diversity amongst underrepresented groups and works closely with employer partners to ensure more people can access opportunities.
In 2021, the University published its ‘Force for Change’ report that outlines how degree apprenticeships are helping to improve social mobility and increase opportunities for learners from diverse backgrounds.
