Appendix one: Penalties for academic misconduct
Deferred assessment and/or repeating modules
Students who are subject to academic misconduct penalties but also have an approved deferred assessment for the assessment attempt, will be allowed a further reassessment opportunity in accordance with the Assessment Extensions Procedure, but the assessment will normally be capped in line with the penalties for academic misconduct below.
Eligibility for reassessment
Penalties and marks will be considered by the Assessment Board, who will decide on the eligibility for reassessment. Timings of reassessments are decided by the Assessment Board. If the offence is committed as part of a reassessment, the student will have no further opportunity to be reassessed, subject to the conditions of the Assessment Extensions Procedure.
Capping
If the student is required to be reassessed, any reassessment mark will be capped at the appropriate pass mark for that level.
Penalties
The penalties below should be applied according to the application of penalties table.
Take into account whether it is the student’s first offence, and whether the misconduct represents a significant proportion of the assessment, or substantially influences the grade that the student may otherwise have received had the misconduct not been identified.
For severe cases, the default penalty is usually failure of the programme.
