Juan Swee Chan

Chan Swee Juan is a Research Assistant at the Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KANITA), Universiti Sains Malaysia. She is currently working on the “Penang Living Lab for Advancing the Creative Economy” (PLLACE) project. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Studies from the University of Malaya and has experience in the creative industry, particularly in the publishing sector, having worked with Penang City Eye and Fo Guang Publications. During her time at Penang City Eye, she conducted interviews and authored articles for Penang City Eye. She later served as a marketing executive at Fo Guang Publications, where she was responsible for writing event reports for Life News Agency (LNA) and managing marketing efforts for large-scale events.

In her current role at KANITA, she collaborates with Dr Lai Wan Teng on research related to creative careers, with a focus on gender factors. Chan Swee Juan is responsible conducting literature reviews on relevant topics, sourcing potential respondents, and carrying out qualitative interviews with creative professionals, entrepreneurs, and academics. Additionally, she will conduct a structured questionnaire survey aimed at assessing the career development, skills, and training needs of creative workers.  Beyond her research duties, she manages administrative tasks for the project, including financial documentation, meeting minutes, and application forms.
