Dr Malgorzata Trelka
Research Associate
Dr Malgorzata Trelka is a Research Associate at the Department of Strategy, Enterprise & Sustainability, Manchester Metropolitan University. She has both, a professional and academic background in cultural heritage management. Dr Trelka studied for an MA in Managing Archaeological sites and Public Archaeology at UCL (2008). She was Head of Heritage Policy at the National Heritage Board of Poland and worked extensively on matters relating to the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in Poland. In this role, she also coordinated the development of research, related to the economic and social value of cultural heritage. She served as a member and a national representative in the Taskforce within European Heritage Heads Forum on a common methodology for collecting economic data on cultural heritage in Europe. Additionally, Dr Trelka co-authored a National Report on the socio-economic aspects of heritage in Poland. Previously, she worked at the Culture Department at UNESCO Bangkok where she contributed to the Museum Capacity Building Programme for Asia and the Pacific. Her PhD in Cultural Heritage (2019) built on her previous experience working for the heritage agency, specifically socio-economic aspects of heritage and sites with World Heritage status. Her AHRC - funded doctoral thesis critically examined how local communities in the Ironbridge Gorge, England, engage with the World Heritage site. Recently, she carried out research at the University of Greenwich on creative industries and World Heritage. She co-authored a report on World Heritage and creative industries in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. The project was funded by the British Academy-Leverhulme – Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She also carried out research which analysed questions related to women succeeding in the arts with the consideration of the issues such as: gender, policy, education and labour. Her role in the PLLACE project is to analyse and disseminate research findings through relevant journals, conferences, and seminars and contribute to the development of new areas in the field of Innovation Management and Heritage Management.
