Biography

Professor David McLachlan KC was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in 1996.  He began his academic career at the University of Essex where he lectured on and was solely responsible for the provision of the Law of Evidence course (1996 – 1997).  In 1997 he commenced pupillage and thereafter tenancy on the Northern Circuit at a Chambers which specialised in criminal law.  In 2017, he was appointed as Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel).  David has extensive experience in prosecuting and defending all types of criminal cases with particular experience in homicide, fraud, firearms and drug trafficking.  He has handled cases of the utmost complexity and seriousness in the criminal sphere and has also been instructed on several significant multi million pound fraud operations as Independent Counsel to consider matters relating to Legal Professional Privilege.  In the last decade he has prosecuted and defended in many well known murder cases in the North West (Liverpool, Manchester and Preston) which have attracted significant local, national and international media coverage.
