Biography

Anna is a Head of Department within the Faculty of Business and Law. The department has over 70 members of staff and 1,800 students. The Department is committed to transforming the lives of it’s students and at the heart of it’s activity is a focus on supporting these students to become Future Finance and Economics Professionals. With this aim, Anna works with a group of academics committed to delivering undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programmes, as well as research activity, that responds to the evolving needs of industry and the wider business community. 

Teaching

I have taught and led units across a range of programmes and levels, including on professional courses such as ACCA. My teaching subject areas include Corporate Finance, Management Accounting and Sustainability. 

I have recently led a core unit on taught postgraduate programmes that considered ‘Critical Perspectives of Ethics and Sustainability’. I have also led units on Academic Writing and Research that prepare our distance learning postgraduate students for their dissertation project.

Supervision

I supervise dissertation students on both our taught and online MSc courses. While these cover a broad range of topic areas, some of the most frequent themes composition and diversity within Boards of Directors, ESG Reporting and CSR practices in organisations.

Outstanding Teaching for Sustainability Nominee

I was shortlisted for the student led teaching awards in 2020 for my teaching in sustainability.

August 2018

Reader in Accounting and Finance & Director of Postgraduate Courses, Department of Accounting, Finance and Banking, Manchester Metropolitan University 

As Director of PG and Commercial Courses I have overall responsibility for delivering on the department’s strategic vision for the education and services we provide in these areas. This has included, but is not is not limited too, some of the following activities: Programme Review and Approval, Development of Student Recruitment Strategy, External Engagement with Key Stakeholders, including Professional Bodies and Regional Employers, Collaboration with University Services, such as the Employability, Admissions, Student Hub and the Students Union to ensure student experience is prioritized in decision making.

Sept 2015

Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, Manchester Metropolitan University 

As a senior lecturer in Accounting and Finance, I delivered a range of units  (including Financial Management, Management Accounting and Strategy) to students at a variety of levels (including Undergraduate and Professional Courses). I also enjoyed acting as a personal tutor, which gave me the opportunity to work closely with specific groups of students and help them with their future aspirations, as well as all the day to day issues that arise.

Made a Difference Award Finalist. 

I was shortlisted as a finalist for the ARU ‘Made a Difference’ Award. This is a student driven awarding process that acknowledges those individuals who have ‘made a difference’ to the student’s experience in Anglia Ruskin. Nominations are driven by students with a panel committee selecting overall winners.

March 2014

Deputy Head of Department, Accounting, Finance and Operations Management, Anglia Ruskin University

The role of Deputy Head of Department encompassed a wide range of activities. Core responsibilities included the following:
- Populating and implementing departmental timetables
- Development and delivery of new curricula at both Postgraduate and Undergraduate levels
- Engagement with Professional Bodies and Commercial Organisations to secure recognition for courses and promote student employability
- Engagement with International partners to ensure consistency of programme delivery and enhance existing relationship
- Supporting student recruitment through local and international promotional activities
- Monitoring and Supporting staff development

Sept 2012

Course Group Leader, Department of Accounting Finance and Operations Management, Anglia Ruskin University 

As course group leader, I was responsible for overseeing approval of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I work closely with students, professional bodies and employers to ensure we produce graduates who have had a positive experience and have developed the appropriate skill-set to successfully enter the workplace.

Course Leader and Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, Anglia Ruskin University  

As a Senior Lecturer in Accounting, Finance and Governance, I lectured and examined a number of modules in Anglia Ruskin University. These modules were delivered using a number of teaching methods with a focus on adapting my delivery approach to the examination methods used. I was module leader for a variety of modules including International Governance, Non-Commercial Governance, Management Accounting and Financial Management.

As Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, my particular responsibilities focused on student engagement and satisfaction. To this end, I was tasked with ensuring efficient timetabling of the course as well as maintaining lines of communication with students. Success within this role was measured by results of the SES and NSS surveys. During my tenure the NSS score for this course increased from a low of 36% to a high of 91%
