Gothic Manchester Festival

The first Gothic Manchester festival helped launch the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies in 2013, but quickly became a separate annual event and a staple of the city’s literary, filmic and artistic scenes. The Gothic Manchester festival is a week-long series of public talks and activities that bring together our researchers, cultural institutions, local business and artists in a celebration of Manchester as a hub of Gothic creation, curation and research.

Some of our exciting collaborations over the years have included: a concert of Gothic music with the BBC, a fashion catwalk for goths and steampunks, a ghost hunting night at Ordsall Hall, a lamp-lit tour of Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester cemetery walking tours, creative writing competitions, film screenings, public readings with Gothic writers, and academic symposia. You can browse the boxes below for more details of the individual festivals.
