We are Family: A live poetry show for Years 5 & 6

Reading

Award-winning children’s author and poet, Oliver Sykes is launching his hotly anticipated debut children’s poetry collection, ‘We Are Family: Six Kids and a Super-Dad’ (Otter-Barry Books) at Manchester Central Library on Friday 24th May.  Find out all about Oliver’s real-life childhood with five siblings and their amazing single dad. There’ll be rhymes, jokes and plenty of opportunities to join-in in this funny and heart-warming show, which will feature: Dad’s disgusting nettle soup, peculiar pancakes, home haircuts, clothes donated by neighbours, punishing press-ups, being third in the bathtub, the fun of boxing lessons with Dad, days out, jokes, pranks – and storytelling around the fire.

Following the show, there will be a Q&A with illustrator Ian Morris, who will talk through how he brought the book to life.

Hosted by Manchester Poetry Library (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Read Manchester, this event will be suitable for years 5 and 6. The project is also supported by Trafford Libraries, Oldham Libraries and Otter-Barry Books. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

Suitable for Years 5 and 6 (KS2)
