Is Manchester Met a good university?
What makes us outstanding?
We’re one of Britain’s most applied to universities for a reason. In a fantastic student city, we offer a vast range of courses at undergraduate level.
Our student population is diverse, partly because we help more students be the first in their families to go to university.
It’s our distinctive approach to teaching that is a big part of our appeal and our reputation for providing an excellent education.
Student-centred
We’ll treat you as an individual while welcoming you into our community.
During your time with us, we’ll help you reach your academic and personal potential, and get career-ready.
You’ll have a personal tutor, who will help you adjust to university life. Our peer assistance scheme will connect you with more experienced students, who can support you as you study. If you’re finding uni tough, because of money or other worries, our practical support will help ensure your wellbeing.
And when you’re not studying, there are loads of societies and sports so you can pursue your passions and find your tribe.
Active learning
We know the most important person shaping your education is you.
That’s why we make the space and provide the opportunities for your talent to thrive. But we need you to play an active part.
You’ll have lectures, but you won’t be lectured. Our teaching aims to fully engage you, so you really understand and get a deeper knowledge of your subject.
This means taking part in group discussions, problem-solving and presentations. These are all effective ways of building your critical thinking, analytical reasoning and communication skills.
Our active learning approach will build your confidence, so you can tackle stretching assignments and make the most of placements and other work experience.
Future-focused
We know that coming to university is only the beginning of your exciting journey ahead.
Our courses are developed with employers, so you’ll graduate with the skills and knowledge you need. Because we’re a dual-intensive university, you’ll also benefit from fresh insights from our internationally respected researchers.
As well as learning through your course, you’ll get opportunities to develop skills and experience through Rise, our award-winning extracurricular programme.
It doesn’t end there: as a graduate, you’ll continue to get career support after you leave, including dedicated help while you get your career up and running.
And our alumni network will connect you with thousands of former students worldwide.
It’s not just the TEF results that show the excellent education we provide.
According to the Times Higher Education ranking, we’re in the top 30 for student satisfaction in 2023.
Feedback from almost 6,000 of our Class of 2023 students ranked us above the higher education sector average for academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and learning opportunities.

About the Teaching Excellence Framework
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) can help you understand and compare the undergraduate education provided by colleges and universities.
The independent Office for Students (OfS) assesses institutions on:
- their teaching
- the student experience they provide
- the outcomes their students achieve
Based on the information provided by a university or its students, the OfS will rate an institution as:
- Gold: The student experience and student outcomes are typically outstanding.
- Silver: The student experience and student outcomes are typically very high quality.
- Bronze: The student experience and student outcomes are typically high quality, and there are some very high-quality features.
Colleges and universities can also be rated as requiring improvement.
The ratings from TEF 2023 last from December 2023 until August 2027.
