Introduction

Right now, there’s a demand for skilled communicators ready to work in culturally diverse environments and it’s a demand our MA Applied Linguistics graduates are equipped to meet.

With a focus on employability we’ll guide you to follow in the footsteps of former students pursuing careers around the world. Our degree places a focus on the practical application of linguistic theories to the wider social context. Taught by research active academics the course aims to enhance your analytical skills and your understanding of how language use influences people and defines our identity.

You’ll have the option to specialise in TESOL or English Language, giving you the opportunity to tailor your studies to your interests. These routes allow you to focus on professional teaching practice with TESOL, or theoretical study with English Language. Alternatively, you can choose to study a variety of units across the two and graduate without a dedicated specialism. Whichever path you choose, you’ll benefit from access to The Manchester Centre for Research in Linguistics throughout your studies.
